SHOW OF SHAME BY LADIES OF NO HONOUR

Abuja Airport was centre of discussion as these ladies turned the traveling environment to market place as everyone wanted to contribute to the controversial issues at the airport. It was a show of shame to womanhood as these ladies caused so much noise about their business that supposes to be of secret to them. The issue is that, who do we blame for the calamity that befall the three  ladies that got themselves into the mess that brought so much noise between the staff  of airport and the airport users.

A crowd was seen gathered in front of the departure hall. Three ladies were seen in a scuffle, trust on- lookers, they watched the show off shame as the ladies washed their dirty linen outsides in the public. The attention of aviation security was drawn who arrested the ladies to tango city for interrogation and possible settlement of the issue that was at stake.

At the security office, the two ladies identified as Tonia and Stella. They are students of higher Institution in Lagos. It was gathered that Stella has arranged Tina to have sexual act with a wealthy politician based in Abuja for a fee of six hundred thousand naira only. This money was supposed to be shared equally after the execution of the contract by Tina. To their surprise, they were informed by another lady who was keeping a close watch at Tina that the politician had settled Tina with the amount he promised to pay without having any sexual act with Tina.

Tina on her part said that she was not given six hundred thousand naira. Rather, she was given three hundred thousand naira by the politician because he did not have immoral act with her. His reason was that, he had an urgent call for an important meeting that will last for the whole night. He did not want to keep her so he asked her to leave to Lagos and that he will call her whenever he needs her service. Tina brought out the three hundred thousand naira that was given to her and showed it to the security officers and to her business partners and she was ready to share the money with them.

However, Tonia and Stella insisted that agreement was reached on how the money will be shared .And  it was on that ground , they said that the aviation security officers  should search Tina so that they can be sure  whether she was saying the truth or not.. Tina did not have any other choice than to submit her luggage for search. To the dismayed of Tonia and Stella, no other money was found with Tina. But they did not believe her, they said that she must have found a way of keeping part of the money some where else. It was at this premises that they suggested that a call should be put across to the politician to confirm the exact amount that he gave. It was then that the truth was revealed and they realized that Tina did not lie. Though, the identification of the politician was not revealed to the aviation security officers for security reason.

Consequently, the money was finally shared among the three ladies and agreement was written in their reports that they were not going to disrupt the peace of the airport and its users again. It was a pity that the children that parents sent to school to study diverted to illegal business without thinking of the consequences. Tina was ashamed of herself as everyone that knew about the case was looking at her and she was not herself throughout the journey. At arriving Lagos local terminal, Tina was in a hurry to get out of the terminal to avoid more people from approaching her to know why she accepted such dirty deal. The likes of Tina are still around everywhere and I wish someday, they will also get their own share of shame.

When Frank graduated from the University, it was a thing of joy to the parents and the family. The parents were so proud that they started addressing themselves as papa and mama engineer. But little did they know that their joy was going to bring them shame and turn them into a laughing stock.

Shortly, Frank got a national call to serve the father’s land. The parents were very happy too. Frank was posted to Lagos state for the national youth service. He went to camp after which he got posted to Nigerian Airspace Management Agency for his primary assignment. It was at his place of primary assignment that calamity befell him.

Frank wanted to live like his colleagues even when he knew that he is from an average family and he knows that his income can’t afford him all the luxuries that he wanted. Meanwhile, his boss loved him as a son and was during everything possible to make him happy. But Frank betrayed his boss when he stole the money that was kept in his possession. His boss did not want to expose him because he did not want him to be expelled by the management. Despite the advice that was given to him by his boss, Frank was determined to make it by all means.  It was his urge for pleasure that finally exposed him to the world.

On that faithful day, Frank went for his compulsory community development at ikeja local government. After there he was going home when he saw this woman whose bag was opened without the woman’s notice. Frank decided to try his luck with the woman’s purse; unknown to him, police officer was directly behind him. Lock ran out of him when the police officer got him. It was a shameful act as other corp  member and their officers ran to the railway to see Frank receiving the beating of his life. It was a terrible sight and Frank was ashamed of himself.
He was later taken to the police station for interrogation and writes a statement.

It was not long before the news flew to his place of primary assignment and the
Secretariat. It was then that his boss told the people that Frank once stole in the office. There was directive from the management that he should be expelled. And NYSC coordinator ikeja has threaten to expel him too.
The news was worst received by his parents as they did not know where to hide their faces. The mother  cried that she lost her voice and the father could not believe that the child that was brought up in a strict way can indulge in stealing.

Frank is full of regret as his shameful act has brought his family so much shame. He has lost out also because NYSC coordinator has vowed not to give him  discharge certificate. Also, Nigerian Airspace Management Agency has promised to write to NYSC headquarters’ to inform them not to post corp members to the establishment again.
Frank has lost his dignity, his family reputation and everything that he worked for
His urge for material pleasure has caused him everlasting stigma. He dream has been shattered and he does not know what lies ahead of him.

pre-marital sex by young people

The issues of sex and sexuality has always been of concern in the society.

For some, it is taboo to discuss sex among teenagers. For others sex is an

issue of morality. But rising of teenage pregnancies and sexually-transmitted

diseases among youths in the country are prompting calls from experts for

the introduction of sex education in school curriculum. Sometimes, it seems

like everyone is talking about who’s a virgin not. For both boys and girls

such pressure can be intense.

REASONS WHY YOUNG PEOPLE INDULGE IN SEX.

COMPREHENSIVE SEX PROGRAMS

SEDUCTIVE MESSAGES:
LACK OF SUPERVISION,
 OVERBEARING, OVERPROTECTIVE

PEER PRESSURES.

THE ROLE OF THE MEDIA

The media plays tremendous role in today’s society and the presence of

mass media in every Nigerian home attests to the fact. The media

specifically conceived and designed to reach a very large audience.

However, young people have wider access to the media especially where

parental control is not strictly enforced. The media influences teens sexual

behaviour  because of what they watched on television

ABSTINENCE AMONG THE YOUTH:

The media has put effort to encourage the youth from avoiding sex with the

introduction of  “ ZIP UP”.

Many young people in Nigeria are engaging in pre-marital sex  before age

20. A significant minority of youths are even more engaging in sex before

the age of 15. Adolescent sexual behaviour has been found to create social

and psychological problems such as an early commitment to a serious

relationship, anxiety, guilt and fear sexual transmitted infections, abortions

and single parenthood, which often leads to poor developmental outcomes.

The media has been used to a large extend to spread the awareness on HIV

AIDS prevention through sexual abstinence campaigns targeting the youths.

And sharing of condom at no cause as a way of encouraging safe-sex

Practice.

SEX EDUCATION:

The media has been used as an avenue to disseminate information on sex

Education . Sex education teaches the young people on how to conduct

relationship with others. Sex education is seen by most scientists as a vital

public health strategy.

Lastly, the negative impact got from the entertainment media showed that

Young people learn aggressive attitudes and behaviors’ which they may

Start exhibiting among their peers, become desensitized to real world of

Violence and developed a fear of  being victimized by violence.

CONCLUSION

Abstinence until marriage has proven to be very effective in reducing

Sexual activity among young people. Their success in changing young

People’s behaviour is due to the fact that they teach young people that

Saving sex for marriage is the best choice, one that will benefit them now

and in future. These programs give students the knowledge and skills to

abstain until marriage.

THE JOY OF PARENTHOOD

7TH   August, 2011 was a day of joy and the most memorable day for the family of Mr. and Mrs. Adams.  It was a day that this family will never forget in their lives. Mr. and Mrs. Adams have been married for years without any child for a period of ten years.  Families and friends have been making mockery of them.  Even Adams’ extended family advised Mr. Adams to take a fruitful wife that will bear them grand children.  To them, Mrs. Nkechi Adams was barren and the hope of bearing them children was lost.

It was not easy for Mrs. Nkechi Adams to mix up with her neighbors and her husband’s family, because of fear of being ridiculed.  She isolated herself from people and subjected herself to self pity and apathy.  To her, life has no meaning without the joy of womanhood.  It was a terrible situation to Mr. and Mrs. Chima Adams.  Mr. Adams on his part gave the wife all the assurances that nobody can come in between them.  He never failed to confess his undying love and care for her.  He told her also that he has not
forgotten the vow he made to her on their wedding day.  But to Nkechi, it was one of
those words, knowing the tribe and the pressure that was mounted on her husband by the parents and considering the fact that her husband is the only son in the family.  This made her to be discouraged and not believing her husband’s assurances.

Igbo tradition holds a strong belief that, the only son has a responsibility of replenishing the family’s lineage to avoid the family’s name from going into extinction.  It was this belief that really affected Nkechi Adams knowing that she can’t go against the tradition of her people.  To her there was reason for fear and tension.

It was when it seemed as if all hope was lost that the lord visited them just as he did to Hannah in the Bible.  According to Nkechi, nine months earlier, she started feeling feverish. To her it was malaria symptoms and she opted for malaria drugs, but her husband advised her to go to the hospital for the treatment instead of self medication.  On arrival to the hospital, she vomited to the bewilderment of the doctor.  It was the reason that the doctor told her to go for pregnancy test but she was reluctant that the doctor should not make mockery of her situation.  It took the intervention of her husband and other doctors around to convince her that there was nothing wrong in her going through the test.

When the result came out and it was positive; Mr. and Mrs. Chima Adams did not believe the result, because of their unbelief they visited another laboratory for confirmation.  When the family got the news, they were excited and were ready to do everything for Nkechi. They did not want her to stress herself.  She that was once rejected was treated like an egg.  Everyone that rejected her wanted to associate with her.  The mother-in-law showered her with love and even moved in with her.  Her story was changed and her countenance was bright and she was cheerful throughout the period of the pregnancy.

The much awaited joy arrived the family at last.  It was a sound of celebration as the Lord blessed Mr. and Mrs. Chima Adams with twins.  They waited for years patiently and God who never fails rewarded the bountifully. This goes a long way to prove the adage that says, ‘the patient dog eats the fattest bone’.  Delay does not mean denial.
The joy and peace that they have not been experiencing now is written all over them. In fact, children are very important in every marriage as their presence brings fulfillment and joy.  Nkechi is now very cheerful and smiles at everybody unlike before that she was finding it difficult to respond to greetings.
